Polls open in Burundi, capital rocked by explosions and gunfire

Witnesses reported gunfire and explosions in Burundi's capital Bujumbura shortly before polls opened for controversial elections.

At least two people were killed; one policeman and a civilian.

Bujumbura has been plagued by three months of violent anti-government protests linked to President Pierre Nkurunziza’s attempt at re-election for a third consecutive term.

Critics say at third term is illegal under the constitution. 

Opposition parties have boycotted the election.
