Kenyan police abducted in Somalia freed after 2 years

Two Kenyan officers abducted by Al-Shabaab militants more than two years ago are now free, according to a report by Agence France Presse (AFP).

Kenyan police Chief Joseph Boinnet says the men are in "good health but traumatized".

The officers were abducted in the north-eastern county of Garissa in May 2013, near the border with Somalia.

The officers were released on 25 June; however, news of the operation was only confirmed on Thursday.

Police say the two men were taken across the border to Somalia where they were repeatedly moved between different Al-Shabaab camps.

He gave no details of how the men were freed, but thanked the "several security agencies which undertook this delicate rescue mission".
