Kenya launches security operation in north region following Shabaab attack

A massive joint security operation is underway in Kenya’s northern region, searching for Al-shabaab militants responsible for killing 14 Kenyans.

The victims, all quarry workers, were attacked on Tuesday morning while they slept near the town of Mandera.

Interior ministry cabinet secretary Joseph Nkaiserry said the government has already evacuated 136 Kenyans living in the area because of fears the militants may stage another attack.

Nkaiserry said they received intelligence the militants, who are believed to have escaped back into Somalia, may have had collaborators.

At least 36 quarry workers were killed in December last year after Al-Shabaab militants raided the quarry and killed the workers as they slept.
