13 dead and 11 injured after attack in northeastern Kenya

13 people are dead in the northeastern town of Mandera after a shooting by Al Shabaab gunmen early this morning (Tuesday 7th), according to officials with the Red Cross.

At least 12 people were also wounded, according to Reuters news agency.

Mandera town (seen above) has been the scene of numerous attacks in Kenya

Abbas Gullet, secretary general of the Kenya Red Cross, said four of the injured are being evacuated to Nairobi for medical treatment.


Gullet said the victims are believed to be quarry workers who were sleeping at the time of the attack.
