Six killed in Al Shabaab suicide bombing against UAE diplomats

Al Shabaab fighters have killed at least six people in a suicide attack on a diplomatic convoy from the United Arab Emirates, according to reports out of the Somali capital Mogadishu.

No UAE diplomats were hurt in the attack.

It’s believed this is the first time Al Shabaab, which is an Al-Qaeda affiliate has, targeted the UAE in Somalia.

The UAE is involved in a number of security, infrastructure, development and humanitarian projects in Somalia.

Witnesses say a military convoy from the African Union force in Somalia (AMISOM) was also passing nearby at the time of the attack close to the UAE embassy.

The attack comes at the start of Islam's holy month of Ramadan.


Al Shabaab has intensified attacks during Ramadan in years past.
