Kenyan police granted more time to interrogate terrorism suspect

A Kenyan court has given police 15 days to interrogate a man suspected of conducting surveillance on President Uhuru Kenyatta's home as part of an alleged plan to carry out a terrorist attack.

Prosecutor Daniel Karuri more time is needed to extract mobile phone data from Said Mire Siyad, who was found in the president's home in Gatundu South in central Kenya.

Karuri said preliminary investigations show the suspect has other associates who are yet to be arrested.

Siyad was among eight other suspects recently arrested for links to alleged extremism.

Kenya security forces have increased the frequency of arrests of people suspected of involvement in extremism since four gunmen from the Somali extremist group al Shabab killed 148 people earlier this month at a college in Garissa, Kenya.
