Hundreds injured after false terror attack leads to stampede in Kenya

A student is dead and more than 100 others injured following a stampede that resulted from a false alarm over a terror attack.

It happened when students at a University panicked when an electricity transformer exploded.

People at Nairobi University's Kikuyu campus mistook the blast and panicked early Sunday morning.

Some avoided using the entrances to their hostels, thinking that Al-Shabab militants were lying in wait, preparing to ambush them and subsequently began jumping out of windows.

Some jumped from as high as the 6th floor.

One man died from the jump and several other students were critically injured.

Many suffered cuts and broken limbs.

Tensions are high at campuses across the country after an attack on a college 10 days ago, which left 148 dead.
