The peace talks in Addis Ababa between delegations aligned to South Sudanese President Salva Kiir and former Vice President Riak Machar have stalled.
Government representatives returned to Juba on Thursday evening to consult with President Kiir.
Chief negotiator Nhial Deng Nhial described the talks as tough and slow.
At the same time a leading mediator in the peace talks blamed both the government and rebel negotiating teams of impeding a ceasefire agreement. Ambassador Seyoum Mesfin said both parties were still creating obstacles that are preventing a deal from being reached.
Machar’s team has said it will not sign a deal unless the 11 detainees in Juba are released.
It also recently added another demand that Uganda must withdraw all UPDF troops currently deployed inside South Sudan.
Ambassador Mesfin said the mediation process has been unsuccessful in halting hostilities so far.
