Juba sitrep/advice @ 13th January 2014

The situation in Juba is relatively quiet, with most foreign NGO and diplomatic staff having been evacuated soon after the initial fighting in mid December. However there are regular reports of gunfire within the town at night.

The airport is fully functional, and processing of visas is currently faster than usual (due to low passenger numbers).

Only a handful of restaurants and hotels remain open for business. These include Keren Hotel and Airport Plaza.

Roads within Juba town remain open. Roads leading from Juba are closed with the exception of the Nimule road.

A 2000 hours government imposed curfew remains in place.

Contact with clients and other sources indicate that some organisations are considering returning to Juba in light of the perceived return to stability, but the situation is far from settled. Bus services from Uganda are apparently running at capacity with people returning to Juba. The feeling among Warrior local staff is one of quiet hope that the talks in Addis will achieve a workable solution soon.

Warrior services remain unaffected and there are currently 2 training courses underway at the training school.
