Juba update @ 1630 hours local 22nd December - troop movement

Sources involved with each side in South Sudan’s current conflict (one loyal to the Kiir government and one not) have both independently confirmed that troops loyal to former VP Riak Machar and Peter Gadet, both from the Nuer tribe have moved from their barracks at Mangala, which is 30kms outside Juba.

Both sources confirm that the group of militia are moving towards Bor in anticipation of a showdown between the two sides.

The airstrip in Bor should be avoided at all costs. Witnesses say militia are conducting their own security screening at the airstrip and removing certain people scheduled to fly. Yesterday eyewitnesses allege the shooting of at least two unarmed civilians based on ethnicity near to John Garang University.

More information to follow as it develops.
