Insecurity rises on Juba to Nimule highway - South Sudan update

Insecurity on the Juba Nimule road, long considered a safe route and the only paved international road in the entire country, is rapidly increasing.



This latest report updates the previous post of 13th April, highlighting the shooting of one person in Nesitu, which is approximately 30 minutes outside of Juba.

Police now confirm that on Sunday armed gangs attacked a car and killed one person and injured two others in the same location.Later that same day the gangs ambushed two vehicles at the same spot killing three and wounding four.The victims were both South Sudanese and foreign nationals.Then on Tuesday the gang ambushed two motorbike riders, killing one and taking the motorbike.

South Sudan Police Service spokesperson, James Monday Enocka says additional forces including auxiliary police forces; Criminal Investigation Division officers and Central Equatoria State police, supported by the Sudan People’s Liberation Army have been deployed to the area.
