Goma deteriorates - dispatch from DRC

Warrior Business and Development Manager Primus Wanga sent the following dispatch from Goma, North Kivu, DRC yesterday:

"The general security situation has deteriorated within Goma town over the past fortnight. Two Incidents of armed intrusion left four dead including a prominent businessman, and in close proximity of the Warrior head office.

A woman was gang raped and left unconscious on Sunday.

Another man was murdered and the body dumped close to a Warrior assignment.

Yesterday evening a grenade attack on a crowded market left one dead and twenty one injured, and an unused grenade was discovered by police inside a town roundabout.

One of our Warrior security guards was robbed of cash and uniform by the military whilst patrolling last night.

It is not known precisely the reasons for such escalation, but we are continuing to monitor the situation in collaboration with UNOPS.

To add to the atmosphere Mount Goma has been disgorging smoke again, causing a substantial problem with air polution"
