SPLA & SPLA-IO trade accusations of ceasefire violations

Despite a peace agreement having been signed to end the civil war in South Sudan, reports of violations are ongoing.

Both sides accuse each other of attacks and the, African led, IGAD ceasefire monitoring and verification teams have not been able to collect evidence because of a lack of access to frontline areas.

Important aspects of the peace deal also include the demilitarisation of the capital city Juba, as well as the withdrawal of the Ugandan military (UPDF).

The UPDF has been deployed since 2013 in support of the Juba based government.

The South Sudanese government is now being accused of backtracking aspects of demilitarisation within the peace deal.
