Aerial bombing continues despite ceasefire: Sudanese anti-government forces

The Sudan People's Liberation Movement - North (SPLM-N) says that Sudanese government armed forces continue to conduct aerial bombing runs despite an agreed upon ceasefire.

Sudanese President Omar al Bashir announced the ceasefire two-months ago.

The Sudanese army has been fighting armed insurgencies on multiple fronts for several years.

One of those is against the SPLM-N in South Kordofan and Blue Nile states.

The Sudanese government has been accused of atrocities against the civilian population in both areas.

Sudan's President Bashir has already been indicted for crimes against humanity for alleged atrocities in the Darfur region.

Sudan is also under US sanctions for being a state sponsor of terrorism.

In the 1990's Sudan hosted infamous jihadist Osama Bin Laden during the period when Al Qaida was planning attacks on US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.

More than 200 people were killed in the 1998 terrorist attacks when nearly simultaneous bombs exploded at US embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam.
