A diplomatic row is brewing between Kenya and South Africa over visa
processes.
Kenya says it may place visa sanctions on South Africa unless the
latter nation relaxes its strict visa rules on Kenyans.
Last year South Africa imposed tough rules on Kenyans seeking to visit
the country, with a service charge of around KES 5850 (about R727) for
applications.
Those visiting for more than one month must pay an additional KES 4800
(about R596).

Kenya and South Africa are discussing changing visa entry rules for visitors to each country |
Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed says the
rules will need to change if there is to be a level playing field.
“I think that we have been very lenient and supportive to visitors
coming to Kenya and I would expect that we be treated the same".
Officials from South Africa will be in Kenya from August 3 to 5 to
discuss the issue.
If an agreement is not reached, Kenya will from set up a visa charge process
beginning September 1st, which South Africans will have to apply for
online and then wait for two days to get their travel documents.
At the moment, South African visitors get their on arrival at the
airport.
