16 dead in Shabaab hotel attacks, more killed in Kenyan airstrikes

At least 16 people are dead following attacks on the Weheliye and Siyad hotels in Mogadishu, Somalia.

Mortar rounds were also fired at Mogadishu's former football stadium, which is now a key African Union troop base.

Meanwhile local news outlets from Somalia report that at least 10 Somali civilians, including women and children, have been killed and dozens injured in an airstrike carried out by the Kenyan warplanes in Southern Somalia, according to residents quoted in the Somali press.

The airborne attacks took place in Gedo region, close to the Somalia-Kenya border.
