Reports are
emerging out of South Sudan’s capital city today of a significant increase in
tension between Government of the Republic of South Sudan (GRSS) security
forces and internally displaced people seeking protection inside United Nations
sites.
At approximately
13:30 today internally displaced people (IDPs) at an IDP camp in Juba are
alleged to have thrown rocks at GRSS security personnel.
A fight
subsequently ensued, UN security responded and order was apparently restored.
Then approximately
2 hours later at 15:30 reports came in that 6 individuals had allegedly been
shot at a checkpoint in the Jebel area, which is near to the largest of the
United Nations IDP camp.
