South Sudan Police arrest 250 following crime wave in Juba

Police in South Sudan are investigating more than 250 people arrested in connection with insecurity in Juba, the nation’s capital.

Minister for National Security in the Office of the President, Obuto Mamur Mete confirmed that security forces have arrested more than 250 suspects believed to have been terrorizing people in Juba.

Police spokesperson Col. James Monday Enoka says the suspects include both men and women.
He adds some are South Sudanese and some are foreigners.

The crime rate in Juba rose steadily over the past few months with high rates of insecurity including theft, abduction and murder.

Combined units of police and members of the national security division were deployed to checkpoints at many areas across Juba recently in an attempt to bring stability to a city that had largely become lawless at night.

Col. Enoka says those found guilty will be charged and prosecuted in a court of law.
