It’s about to get easier for international travelers and
business people to pay for things when visiting South Sudan.
VISA credit card service is being expanded to South Sudan –
the first credit card service of its kind in the world’s newest country.
Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) will carry the VISA service and
says that VISA will be available at all of its 20 branches – adding that it
plans to open more branches in the near future.
KCB says VISA will be available in all major hotels by the
end of the year and says customers will also be able to use VISA at automated
teller machines starting next year.
South Sudan’s economy is still primarily driven by hard
currency – at times causing cash flow headaches for many businesses.
Additionally, the bank rate for U.S dollars and the black
market rate vary drastically.
The bank rate is 3.1 and the black market rate hovers
between 4.3 and 4.5.
